This workshop describes the history and scope of superficial needling and skin stimulation among Japanese styles of acupuncture. It demonstrates the value and effect of this mode of acupuncture stimulation that has been ignored and forgotten in modern times.

Participants will learn how to palpate points that are most suited for superficial insertion. Also the superficial technique of Master Shudo, super-rotation insertion® (SRI) will be introduced. Participants will learn how to use simple and effective superficial needling techniques.

Brown, S.

Stephen Seiji Brown, EAMP, born in 1954 in Wakayama,
East Asian Medical Practitioner with focus on Japanese-styles; translation of Japanese texts of traditional medicine; writing and editing for professional journals (NAJOM), teacher/lecturer on Japanese-style acupuncture, moxibustion & bodywork. Anma, shiatsu, and massage license 1982 Japanese Ministry of Health; acupuncture and moxibustion license 1983 Japanese Ministry of Health; acupuncture license (licensed acupuncturist) 1987 State of Washington. He has a broad experience in Japanese Medicine and worked with master Shizuto Masunaga, Dr. Jiao Guorei, Dr. Yoshio Manaka and Masaru Takahashi. He was an instructor of acupuncture points at International Acupuncture Training Program of Kuretake Institute, a faculty member of the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle, a board member of acupuncture advisory committee for the State of Washington and is present editor of North American Journal of Oriental Medicine and a present faculty member of Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine. He translated numerous books about Japanese Medicine, published a wide range of articles, lectures at different Colleges and is an instructor at the OCOM (Portland, OR) Japanese styles acupuncture module for doctorate program.
